John and Mabel Lowe


John was the 5th of 12 children born to George and
Harriet.He was born 16 aug 1882 in Parowan, Utah. He died 9 Oct 1945 in Evanston, Wyoming. He was buried 13 Oct in Delta, Utah.

Mabel Gertrude Holyoak was the first child born to
William and Margaret. She was born 31 Jul 1884 in Parowan, Utah. Died 9 Jan 1934 in Rawlins, Wyoming.


John and Mabel were married 25 Aug 1905 in Cowley, Big Horn, Wyoming and they had eight children.

Darrel Clifton b.26 Feb 1908 Cowley, Wyoming d. 13 Jan 1953 Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Marguerite Lillian Packer 18 Jun 1939 in Evanston, Wyoming. She was b. 29 Apr 1913 in Brigham City, Utah and d. 20 Mar 2002 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Alda b. 3 Nov 1910 Clawson, Idaho d. 18 Feb 1972 in Craig, Colorado. She married Ralph Wilson Jons 31 Aug 1936. He was b. 17 Mar 1906 in Baggs, Wyoming and d. 13 Dec 1978 in Craig, Colorado. They had 5 children. Amy Oleta, Mabel Marie, Lea Cristine, Lowell Ralph and William Lester.

Raymond Holyoak b. 15 Aug 1912 in Clawson, Idaho, d. 13 Feb 1994 in Northridge, California. He married Elise Alita Morton 29 Aug 1937. She was b. 15 Jan 1919 Columbus, Ohio and d. 25 Dec 2000 in Canoga Park, California. They had 6 children LaVaughn(Bobbie), Darlene, Ramona(Mona), Linda, Shelley and Ilene.

Amy Evelyn b. 26 Oct 1914 Clawson, Idaho d. 13 Aug 2002 in Wyoming. She married Raymond Howard Ellis 15 Jun 1936. He was b. 7 Oct 1911 in Trotwood, Ohio d. 14 NOv 2005 in Baggs, Wyoming. They had 3 children Gertrude, Naomi Gay and Ramona Ivalou.

Verla Married Loren Kenneth. They had 5 children. Zella Elaine, Carolyn Ann, Velma LaRee, Loren Jr and John Lewis.

Eva b. 23 Aug 1919 in Summit, Utah d. 31 Jan 1974 in Wilmington, North Carolina. She married Theron Lonnie Price 28 Sep 1945 in Long Beach, California. He was b. 11 Nov 1920 in Southport, North Carolina d. 27 Nov 1968 in Southport, North Carolina. They had 4 children. Marolyn Gail, John Kevin, Lonnie Theron and Daniel Keith.

Margaret b. 9 Jul 1922 in Sutherland, Utah d. 7 Jan 2000 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She married Harry Smith Ellis 17 May 1941 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had 2 children. Joan and David.

Final Rites Held

For Harriet A. Lowe

Death came on Monday morning to Harriet Allen Lowe, 82, wife of George A. Lowe, an esteemed woman of this community. She had been in failing health for several months and for several days before the end came she was unconscious most of the time. Funeral services were held Wednesday Afternoon in the West ward chapel with Daniel Crawford of the ward bishopric presiding. Speakers were Mary M. Mardsen, Hugh l. Adams and Walter C.Mitchell. Musical numbers included a solo, “That Wonderful Mother of Mine” by Mary Dalton, a quartet, “Goin’ Home” by Ormon Weight, Ray D. Garner, Clair Rowley and Ivan Decker, a guitar solo by C. W. Elliott, an orchestra number “Love’s Old Sweet Song” by Ivan Decker and members of his family, a number by the choir, “Nearer My God to Thee” and a violin solo, “Lay My Head Beneath the Rose” by Mr. Decker. Bishop W. L. Adams read sentiments written by relatives and friends of the family. The opening prayer was offered by Arnold Stevens and the closing one by David Matheson. The grave was dedicated by Albert Anderson. The deceased was born in Provo November 21, 1857 a daughter of Daniel and Sarah Whitley Allen. The family came to Parowan when she was a young girl and she has made her home here ever since. She was married to George A. Lowe on December 14, 1873 and became the mother of twelve children, eight of them boys, all but two of whom survive her. One of the boys died as a child and Sam passed away a few years ago. The surviving children are Geo. A Jr., Ernest I., Alphonse, Mrs. Lillian Heap and Mrs. Ada L. Evans of Parowan, Daniel J. Lowe of Lovell, Wyoming, John R, Lowe of Springville, Grant A. Lowe of Salt Lake City, Deslie L. Anderson of St. George and Laura Everett of California. Also surviving her, are her husband, a sister and a brother, Mrs. Anna L. Hollingshead of Jerome, Arizona and Fred Allen of Payson, 72 grandchildren and 95 great grandchildren.


George A. Lowe Dies
at Home Of Daughter

George Alma Lowe, 88, prominent livestock grower and farmer of this community for many years passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Lellon B. Heap, here Wednesday night at 11 o’clock of ailments incident to old age. Mr. Lowe has been in rather poor health for several months. Though he was only confined to his bed for three days before the end come. He has been at the home of his daughter since the passing of his wife the first of May this year.
Mr. Lowe was one of the oldest pure-bred Rambouillet sheep breeders in southern Utah, having imported the first sheep of the breed in 1901. He was instrumental in organizing the Southern Utah Rambouillet Sheep Breeders Association, and served as its president for several years. He was fond of good livestock, particularly horses, always having fine teams and saddle stock on his farm util the past few years, when he was forced to stop farming because of his age. He has been active in other community affairs and was always a booster for his home town.
He was born in Salt Lake City January 17, 1854, a son of John and Elizabeth Couzens Lowe. While still a small boy his parents moved to Toquerville, Utah to help colonize in that section. The family later moved to Parowan where Mr. Lowe has lived ever since. He married Harriet Allen, December 14, 1873 when about 20 years old and 12 children were born to this union, ten of whom survive him. They are as follows: George A. Jr., Ernest I., Alfonso Lowe, Mrs. Ada L. Evans and Mrs. Lellon B. Heap of the city; John R. Lowe of Lovell, Wyoming; Grant Allen Lowe of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Laura Everett of Los Angeles and Mrs. Deslie Lowe Anderson of St. George.
He is also survived by 72 grand-children and 95 great grand-children.
Funeral services will be held for him Sunday afternoon in the West Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop T. Wendell Bayles, and interment will take place in the city cemetery. A detailed account of the funeral will be given in our next issue.

Excerpt from the book "WITH BOOK AND PLOW" William and Margaret made their home in Parowan, Utah. The left Parowan, October 23, 1901, en route to Cowley, Wyoming. They went by train with their wagons, farm equipment and livestock to green River, Wyoming. Margaret's father Frederick Bentley, accompanied them on the journey. Others in the party were Charles R Lyman and Benjamin B. Smith and their families. At Green River the wagons ere loaded and preparation were made to continue the journey. William took Margaret and the smaller children and went on ahead of the others with a six horse outfit arriving in Cowley, November 15. His older boys arrived two weeks later with the other wagons and the livestock.
